Chris Kneifel is a former American professional racing driver who competed in various motorsport disciplines, including IndyCar, IMSA, and NASCAR. He was born on September 20, 1953, in San Francisco, California, and began his racing career in the late 1970s.
Kneifel is best known for his achievements in sports car racing, where he scored several wins and podium finishes during his career. He won the IMSA GTU class championship in 1985 and 1986 and the IMSA GTP class championship in 1991. He also finished second overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1990 with teammate Bob Wollek.
Besides sports car racing, Kneifel also raced in IndyCar and NASCAR races. He competed in three Indy 500 races between 1986 and 1988 and made 31 NASCAR Cup Series starts between 1992 and 1994.
After retiring from racing, Kneifel worked as a motorsports television commentator and race director for several racing series. He was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2009, and his racing legacy continues to inspire racers around the world.
